When deciding to create an internet business, it can be a little intimidating. Where do I start? What kind of product should I promote? How can I accomplish this without it costing me too much money? How do I advertise my site?....the questions can go on and on. A person can actually get paralyzed by all the information they will read before making any decisions.

The best way to start would probably be to research the types of products or marketing you would be interested in promoting. Finding the best merchandiser site i.e. ClickBank, Commission Junction, Google Affiliate to name a few, is a good place to start. These sites offer plenty of help and you can always email them with questions you may have. They usually will get back to you within a couple of business days.

Sometimes you can search individual websites, where they offer all kinds of information and applications. If you locate a website that offers valid products that are free or doesn't cost so much, you can gain a lot of information from it, odds are you will get plenty of the right information from it. How you apply the information can be taken from the ideas suggested or you can do what a lot of people do and register with a hosting site and begin creating your website, blog or promotional page.

Sometimes a merchant site might look great...all the flash, and color, but you soon find out that their products cost way too much. Be careful when you see high-prices, you could get a big charge on your credit card and terrible customer service or an invalid product. Better to check if these types of sites have an affiliate program. That way you can upload their banners, links etc. on your website without having to pay anything. But be smart and do a search on the product to find out how many searches have been done on it. This can help you decide what products to promote.

Remember supply and demand is a good rule of thumb to apply before deciding which products you choose to place on your website. Ok, you have your product or products that you will be promoting. If you've signed up with a hosting-site, which you should, you can now start to upload these products to your site and start arranging and creating your site the way you want to. That's the fun part. Take your time, you want to be creative. Imagine you are the customer looking for a product, considering the mass on the internet, you want your site to invite those surfers' in not turn them off.

The next step after you've completed your site is to find ways to promote your site. This is actually a lot easier than it seems. There are several submittal-sites that will allow you to submit your site url. Some submittal-sites may charge a small fee and they will promote your site for you to several different search engines. This can work for you too. The key is the more submittal-sites you apply to the better chances you'll have to obtaining more exposure and traffic. Just be sure that you check if the submittal-sites are solid and not a scam.

Google AdSense is the Google program where you can host pay-per-click ads on your Website. When someone clicks an ad, you earn money. Simple as that.

Is it really as easy to make money with Google AdSense as many would lead you to believe? Now that I've become heavily involved with managing Google AdSense programs for my clients, I can see it's not all play and no work.

Unfortunately, a lot of people bought into the idea that there was a lot of easy money to be made and they are now finding out they aren't making nearly as much as they thought they would. Additionally, Google has a lot of prohibited practices when it comes to AdSense, and too many Webmasters are finding out they violated Google's policies after the fact - often because they never bothered to read the AdSense policies in the first place.

Webmasters must not only comply with AdSense policies, but their Websites must also comply with Google's webmaster policies.

Prerequisites for Making Money with AdSense

To make money with Google AdSense you need plenty of traffic coming in to your site or there won't be anyone to click the ads. Website promotion techniques, especially search engine optimization and article marketing will bring more traffic to your site. You also need to have content that will attract the ads with the highest Pay Per Click (PPC) rate that are relevant to that content. Then, you need to lay out your web pages so the ads blend in with your site. Studies have revealed that people who visit sites that contain ads that use colors that are not in harmony with the actual Web site tend to develop "ad blindness". Meaning no matter how much traffic comes into your site, chances are no one will click the ads because they'll be ignoring them. If no one clicks, you make nothing.
Dealing with Competitors' Advertisements

If you offer products or services on your Website, the first thing you'll notice when you begin hosting PPC ads is that many of the ads are coming from your competitors. Therefore, you'll want to put ads on pages that aren't earning you any money, or do like I did and not put ads on your site until you're so busy anyway you'd rather make a few dollars off of your competitors than to continue turning business away with nothing to show for it.

Google AdSense allows you to specify up to 200 URLs for sites you want to bar from placing ads on your pages. The problem is that most times you won't know the competitors are out there until their ads appear.

Google Money Making Ad Options

Google offers three ways to make money from them:
Google AdSense for Content - A variety of size and shape ads for placing in your content are available. These can be text or image ads or both - you specify what you'll allow. Ad units are full ads. Link units are simply a strip of text links that your visitors might want to click. Google allows you to put up to 3 Ad Units and 1 Link unit on each page of your Web site, provided you follow its policies - both for AdSense and for Webmasters.
Google AdSense for Search - This places a search box on your Web site. When a user enters a term and conducts a search, a search results page opens, that hosts more pay-per-click ads. You can customize the color scheme of the search results page to harmonize with your web site.
Google Referrals - Here you make money by referring visitors to use a Google product, like AdSense, AdWords, the Google Toolbar and other Google software. Just like Google AdSense for Content and AdSense for Search, Google generates the code that you paste into the desired location on your web page. You can choose from a wide variety of buttons and text links of different colors. As an example of how Google Referrals works, if someone goes to your site and clicks the link and signs up for an AdSense account, when that person earns a $100 from Google AdSense and receives a payout from Google, you'll also receive $100 for referring them. This is a great idea to me, because you can be the world's worst Google AdSense advertiser, but if an ad dynamo happens to visit your site and uses your referral link, you can make money anyway!
Google AdSense Payments

Google will not issue an AdSense payment until your earnings exceed $100. Unfortunately, there are loads of Google AdSense Forum entries about website operators who accumulated $90 or more in click through earnings only to get banned from Google and not get paid anything at all before they ever reached $100. This may be because Google doesn't take a close look to see if you're complying with their guidelines until it comes time to pay you. So yes, there's a lot more to the story than meets the eye.

Other Programs Besides AdSense

Yahoo and MSN have similar programs, although those programs aren't as well-developed as Google AdSense and there aren't as many available advertisers to display ads on your site. The fundamentals for making money are the same: You still need plenty of traffic, you still need high-paying ads, and you still need to design your site to harmonize with the ads to get people to click.

Since the internet is the information super highway of the 21st century than it stands the reason that road signs are needed to take internet users where they want to go. If you are doing business online, you want those signs to guide people straight to your website. Enter keyword.

If content is king (and it is) then keywords are the queen. Choose the right keywords, then step back and watch search engines bring you more web site traffic. On the flip side picking the wrong ones or at least words that are too general in nature can relegate your website to internet obscurity. That is why it is very important to get you keyword marketing off to a good start by researching compiling and analyzing your keyword list.

You can use any keyword tool available to do your research. The big enchilada is of course Overture. Just type in your word or phrase and then check out the results. Is there a potential target market available? Higher search results mean more competition. There is nothing wrong with that, it just means you will have to work a little bit harder. Compile all words and phrases that fit your niche into a list.

However the keyword phrase Hilton Paris scandal yields 2,144 search results. That means less competition, higher ranking in the search engines and a greater chance of people finding your website.

c) What's the incentive?
This is where you want to do a little role play with your target audience. The goal is to find people who are motivated to take action now no matter if it's buying your product, reading your content or clicking on a link. There are various tools and software to measure consumer trends in relation to site traffic.

As you have probably figured by now all of this involves a lot of trial and error. There is more to keywords than just search results. You have got to know what words and phrases are triggering action. For this reason you need first and foremost to study your target market thoroughly.

To make your keyword marketing a success requires constant evaluation. The good part is once you put your system of research, compiling and evaluation into place, the process will flow more quickly and smoothly right toward your online success.

1) It’s easy to get lost and distracted in cyberspace. Make a list of what you’re looking for, like sales figures, trends, pricing, competition, etc. Think about customer characteristics too, like demographics, psychographics, behaviors and geography.

2) Create a list of phrases common to your industry, such as “coffee retail”, “coffee shop customers”, “coffee drinkers”, “Seattle coffee shops”, etc.

You can also try FindArticles.com. “Coffee shop customers” resulted in a long list of articles with author and publisher. Lastly, try “coffee trade publications” in a search engine. This turned up Tea & Coffee Asia, Gourmet Retailer and several trade organizations. If you’re looking within a particular geography, remember to include local magazines, newspapers, radio and television stations (for example, Seattle Magazine, The Seattle Times, KIRO, and NWCN).

4) At the sites, look for reports, white papers, news, articles and statistics. At the media sites, look under Advertising or Media Kits too, which typically offer information about their audience that you can use in your own research. If you are a novice website owner and just getting your bearings together regarding the need to optimize your site for higher page ranking by Google and other search engines, this brief crash course on basic Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques may be just what you are looking for. By generally following these tips you set the platform for higher page rank over time.

1. DOMAIN NAME:

Try and name your domain name after your business. In other words, if you plan on selling bricks from your website you could name your site domain name ‘bricksrus.com” or “thebrickbusiness.com” …any name incorporating the word “brick” in the domain name will help search engines index your site and page ranking over time.

2. GOOD KEYWORD CONTENT:

If you are designing your own HTML pages for your site, you probably already know that you need keyword rich text that uses keywords to describe your business, product or service. As mentioned above, if you are in the brick business, you could use words that describe your products like: “bricks, red bricks, cement bricks, cinder bricks, small bricks, large bricks, etc. By using the keyword “brick” you are helping search engines categorize your site and its relevance when somebody searches for “bricks” online. The use of the word “bricks” in your domain name and your home page content will help raise you up in the search queries. It takes time to get a good page rank and laying the proper foundation now will speed up the ranking process. If you are using template based software for your website there is not much you can do to improve your site design except to make sure that all your site pages have a link back to the home page. The reason for doing this is when your site is crawled by search engine spiders each page is indexed. Over time each page will have a page ranking which, when linked back to your home page, will contribute those page ranks to the home page (similar to links from other sites). Long story short, it helps give your site relevancy to the search engines and this is helpful for new sites.

4. META TAGS:
Meta page title tags and meta keyword description are not as important as they once were but it is important to know how to use them and to use them well. Page title tags is what describes each page on a website and appears across the top of your browser when clicking from page to page across the Internet. The page title tag should use the most important keywords that describe the page content and are relevant to your site. For example, a home page title could be changed from “index” to “ Bricksrus, Bricks, Bricks and More Bricks” … The point being that again the word brick is being used to help search engines understand your page and business. A keyword approach should be taken whenever possible.

5. USE ALT TAGS:

Alt tags are HTML code that describes images appearing on your site. Search engines scan alt tags as they crawl through a web site and using alt tags is another great way to use keywords. Registering your site with Google is quick and easy, as are many other popular search engines. Be aware that some search engines want fee-payments before they will accept your site submission. My opinion is to avoid paying for site submission, it’s a racket. Registering with Google and the multitude of free search engine submission sites is the way to go. 8. LINK EXCHANGE:
When you have a new site and little or no Google page rank, it can be difficult to get good sites to link to yours because it is basically a waste of their time to do so. What you can do to get your site URL listed on high page rank sites is to write articles (like this one) on QUALITY Ezine directories with Google page ranks over 5/10. Well blogging is great because it is free, you don't have to know HTML and you dont have to pay for visitors to your blog. The way to make money from blogs is simple, affiliate and advertising commissions. When a visitor comes to your blog, they can click on an affiliate product link, and you earn a commission when they buy. If you choose to do advertising too, you get a percentage of what the advertiser pays per click. Blogging can also be pretty fun, especially if you make the blog about something that you like.

The best thing about blogging is the fact that it automatically draws visitors to your site, since the free blog providers are crawled by the search engines on a daily basis. So you add some information, the search engines come and add it to their results, then when people search for that same info they arrive at your blog. The more you add to your blog, the more traffic you will get to it. Also, if you make a really good blog that has good information, then people will bookmark it and come back often, maybe even daily.

When it comes to making money from your blog, there are actually multiple streams of income that you can create. That brings me to my next point, choose your topics wisely. The best thing to do is to make a blog about something you already know about, this way you wont lose interest quickly and it will keep you coming up with new ideas all the time. Basically, make a blog about your hobby or something that you like to do in your free time, or a topic that you just like to talk about. My favorite part of my blogs is that I learn something new just about everyday!

The only problem with blogging for profit is that too many people do it wrong and end up getting banned or something from the search engines, or worst yet, their blog host. No visitors mean no money, so if that happens then you will lose all of your profits.

A book by Rob Benwell, called Blogging to the Bank, is a great guide that will teach any beginner how to make money from free blogs. This means you will save time and frustration of writing a blog, then later getting it banned and removed.

The most common question I am often asked by some of my customers who are newbies is ‘Is it too late to start an internet business?. My answer to that is an emphatic, No.

This is because I cannot think of a better business to do today. Have you ever considered the alternatives and compared them with an Internet business?

Look at the newspapers and magazines classified ads where franchise opportunities are advertised. The cost of buying into a franchise business opportunity is prohibitive to say the least. The reason for this is that you are buying in to an established business that has hopefully tested many of its management and marketing variables and is now deemed profitable. The creator of the business idea has endured all the pain that naturally comes with starting a brand new business off the ground. He is now enjoying a moderate to high level of success in his enterprise, hence the franchise roll out.

The franchise roll out inevitably becomes another income stream for him. What is not guaranteed (and no one can give you any guarantee whatsoever in any business venture) is that you will enjoy the same level of success, when the business is moved in to your neighbourhood. Therein lies the risk after you have paid huge sums of money to the franchise owner. The advantage of a franchise business deal is the enterprise is essentially ready for take-off.
The other alternative is to be innovative and creative, such that you start an entirely new business with your own idea (which you can actually claim the copyright). 6 Steps to an Effective Online Business

Creating and running an effective online business is realistically comprised of several hundred, rather than 11, but this will serve as a guide for the direction of your efforts. Contrary to what you may hear rampantly on the Internet, there is no cookie-cutter, get-rich quick scheme on the web. Not only is every online business different, what works for one person or in one month may not work for another person or in the next month.

The Internet is constantly changing, and the online market is inherently different this year than it was last year. New technological improvements occur monthly, and impact the online business environment. What works for one individual when he is the first to sell a certain product a certain way may not work just six months later when he has sold his idea to 40,000 other marketers, and they all begin to promote it. Traffic generation tactics are significantly different than they were just a year ago, and hardly resemble profitable strategies three years ago.
These 11 Steps are simply the bare-bones skeleton of what has to happen for your online business to be successful. They are foundational, and although the implementation strategies are different today than several years ago, the basic steps remain the same.

1. Develop or discover a product.
You must find a product that meets today’s needs. A 5 year old product whose resell rights you can buy for a dollar or get for free probably won’t meet the needs of today’s consumers. You must be willing to pay for the rights to sell a current , useful product, or become an affiliate marketer, where you promote a popular product, and in exchange are paid a percentage of the income from the sale.

2. Determine how the potential customers can view your product and see a sales presentation.
If you develop your own product or purchase the rights to sell someone else’s, you will need a website. A few tips here: Rather than accept free web hosting, purchase your own domain name and pay to have your domain name and web site hosted by a professional web hosting company with a reputable history. If your free web hosting company goes bankrupt, they generally take your fledgling business with them.

3. Once you have your web site up and running, unless you are using an affiliate program that supplies a sales page, you must develop a sales script and web copy. Aside from your web hosting decision, this is probably the most important thing you can do. You may be tempted at first to write a sales pitch on your own, but unless you already have a lot of experience in the offline market writing effective sales letters, you need to, absolutely must, invest in a few courses on web copywriting. Be willing to spend some money upfront on learning this skill. Too many marketers try to wing it in this area and after a few months of losing money online, finally break down and purchase the knowledge to write a good sales pitch. Do it the other way around—buy the knowledge first, and start making sales from the beginning. Customers will not buy just because you have a web site---they buy from the web site that does the best job of convincing them it has the best product for their need.

4. You must develop a traffic source that works.
When you first begin, you may be on a shoestring, and that is OK. Assuming you have been willing to spend some money on sales letter writing and a decent web host, you may be able to skimp in the traffic arena for awhile, if you have plenty of time. If you do not have money to advertise, nor time to seek out low cost advertising, you probably shouldn’t be attempting an online business. If you do choose to go the low-cost route—know two things up front—the returns are really low and you will spend vast amounts of time on traffic generation. Once you begin to make sales, you must invest your income in paid forms of traffic generation. If you do not, you will run out of enthusiasm for generating the free traffic, and without reinvesting the income from your first sales into advertising, you are sure to fail. Good sources of low-cost, but time consuming traffic are: writing articles and posting them to article directories, low cost classified ads, and ezine ads. You may see hyped-up ads for thousands or visitors for a low cost or millions of banner ads for another reasonable price—both of these methods may have worked 2 years ago, but they are a sure waste today.

5. Once you begin to get traffic to your online business site, you must keep detailed records of where the traffic comes from, and what percentage of visitors from each source are purchasing your product. If you have visitors that cost you $50 per hundred to come to your web site, but on average they only purchase $25 per hundred visitors, the income may feel good, but you are not profitable, and are losing money. By tracking your expenses on each type of visitor and by tracking your revenue on the same sources of visitors, you can determine which campaigns need changes or need to be eliminated and which need to be increased in intensity.

6. By following this pattern of steps, and by keeping diligent records (there is plenty of good web site tracking software on the market that can help you do that), you can develop a profitable online business. Again, it will not happen overnight, and you will not get rich quick. However, if you build a solid online business with a solid foundation, and are willing to spend some money learning how to do it right, you really can become successful in business online.

As you keep skimming through this article, you're beginning to think... “Hmmm? What are those keys?”

So to make it easy on you I’ll list a rough sample of some of them here:

Writing good direct response copy is a valuable skill that must be learned over time OR you can pay an experienced copywriter to do it for you if you have the money. This one skill alone has made me financially free!

• Give some valuable information on your topic to your new subscribers for free in order to build a trusting relationship with them. Relationship marketing is an extremely effective form of marketing and has the power to build you a vast fortune if applied correctly.

• Create an e-book, CD or DVD on solving the most burning problems that people have in your industry. For example if your industry is the Golfing industry then maybe a product on improving your golf swing would be one that solves a burning problem.

• Write a direct response styled sales letter and add a Paypal button at the end of it so you can collect payments. Again, this is a learned skill.

• Start selling it to your subscribers, and then to the rest of the world!

Now I’ll be honest that list is a VERY rough one but as you can see, it is extremely simple. The fact is that there are many smaller things that must be accomplished within each of those listed and even more that I haven’t mentioned here.
It would take books and books of writing to accomplish that and this is just a short article.
The fact of the matter is this, my friend…

Mindset For A Successful Online Business

Your mind is a very powerful instrument. What you process through your mind and how you process it, produces the success (or lack of it) in your life and in your online business. Thoughts are what bring about ideas, motivation, behaviour, action and results. Although it can’t be measured precisely, success is probably 80% what you think and 20% what you do. So it’s VERY important that you work on that 80% of your life.

The first step that you MUST complete is to take FULL responsibility for all of your thoughts, actions and results. Anything less is a cop-out and is just an excuse for your failures. Take note that I am not saying that you are to BLAME… only that you need to be accountable for where you are in life. If you don’t take this important step, you will just continue to blame circumstances, events, other people, luck or fate for your lack of success. Your lack of accountability will continue to hold you back for the rest of your life. Decide NOW that you will turn this around.

Your beliefs are the building blocks of your life. The thing with beliefs is that they are absolutely TRUE for the person that believes it. If you believe that you can’t create success on the internet, then you are right, you won’t have success. You can CHOOSE the beliefs that you want to adopt. Don’t choose beliefs based on if they are true or false. Choose beliefs that are RESOURCEFUL for you and what you want out of life.

Focus is the key ingredient to success. Luckily for all of us, we have complete control over what we focus our minds on (although most of us don’t exercise this control on a consistent basis, me included). When you focus on something, you create pictures of that in your mind, and if you add emotion to this picture as well, your mind gets busy trying to create that for you (it doesn’t matter if it’s positive or negative, your mind will act on those pictures faithfully and try to create it for you). So if you consistently focus on creating a hugely successful internet business and add positive feelings, your mind will help you get it.

OK, let’s move onto goals. What you need to do is spend the day deciding exactly what it is that you want for your life and your online business. Get a pen and paper, sit down and write everything down in specific detail (even if some things seem ludicrous and out of reach). Now refine all of this into a goal statement and read this out ALOUD every day, at least twice a day. Visualize having all the things on your goal statement, add positive emotion to it and really get excited about it. This is how the human brain and mind operates and this is how successful people do it.

Finally, take action, keep taking action, refine those actions and take more action until you reach your goals. Taking action brings out a power from you that you don’t realize you have. Taking action allows you to refine and improve as you go. It’s always better to take some action (even if it’s wrong) than to stand still… at least you can get on with the job of making it better.

Make the commitment to changing your life. Be one of the 5% of people that make it big in Internet Marketing… and focus on the 5% that make it, not on the 95% that don’t. Keep in mind that practising the above tips for 30 minutes per day and then doing the opposite for the other 16 waking hours will sabotage your efforts, so consistency is the key. Never underestimate the power of YOUR thoughts… they can make or break your success.

I was sitting around today and I was trying to figure out what to right about in regards to my next article; it's hard because the subjects remain the same but the details change daily. I sat around and decided I would share my thoughts in regards on how I've made my website successful; I've done this before but I think I've figured out a way to express my true feelings in regards to home businesses. I signed a contract my mentor proposed to me, so I can never go too far, and I don't want to; he's been a huge influence on my life as an Internet Marketer and person. I consider myself lucky because it's hard to find a person in this business that can truly show you the ropes. I'm going to do my best to show everyone how you can make a home business work without breaking that contract.

I believe the most important aspect of making a home business work is one's mental outlook on life. You really need to be a positive person in order to make money from home. All of us who can make profits from home usually have a good outlook on all avenues of life. How you approach all areas life will be tested in the home business setting; if you're a quitter, you definitely won't make it in this field. I make mistakes all the time, but I never make the same mistake twice. It's alright to make mistakes; that's how you learn and grow. The home business market is very competitive, and it changes everyday; there are so many smart people out there who know what it takes to be successful. When you start your business you'll be up against the majority of these people; as you grow in this business; you'll find yourself separating from the competition; you need to separate yourself, if not, you won't make it. The initial learning stage is the most important step; you'll make or break your business during that time. Try to tell yourself "I CAN DO THIS" The positive attitude will be the driving force behind your success. I'm not a person who likes to work for people; all I need to do is make enough money to support myself, that's my definition of success. I understand why people try to sell others on the aspect of being incredibly wealthy, it works sometimes. I believe in selling people on the truth of the business; if you think you can be rich overnight, you're very wrong. Working from home is very hard, and it takes a lot of time, money, and effort; if it was easy, everyone would be millionaires. This business is so competitive for one reason and one reason only; we all want to work from the comfort of our own home. I believe the best way to find a great mentor is by just being honest and aggressive. Type what you're looking to do in a search engine and you'll find who's successful instantly; they're usually the people with the highest ranking websites. Once you find those websites, contact them personally and see if they are willing to give you hand, a lot of times there too busy, but if you keep it up you'll eventually find the right person.
